Event Description
Join TeachRock and the Department of Social Studies and Civics for a day of professional learning at the Center for Jewish History. Attendees will explore TeachRock’s resources and discover how to use music as a primary source pedagogy, investigate Passport to Social Studies and Hidden Voices curricular materials about Jewish Americans in popular music, while engaging with multiple artifacts from the Center for Jewish History’s collections as well as learning with special guests. This session, which is part of the 2025-2026 Rock and Roll Classroom PL Tour, will provide teachers with lesson plans, materials, and strategies to bring this transformative cultural movement to life in their classrooms.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Use music as a primary source to support inquiry-based instruction in history and social studies
- Connect TeachRock resources to NYCDOE curricular materials, including Passport to Social Studies, Civics for All, and Hidden Voices
- Analyze primary source artifacts from the Center for Jewish History's collections to deepen historical thinking skills
- Apply lesson plans and strategies that explore the contributions of Jewish Americans to popular music and culture
- Access TeachRock's full library of free, ready-to-use lesson plans and resources
